ENKEL:INNEN

From March 27 to April 5, 2025, the art project ENKEL:INNEN was in residence at Schloss Wiepersdorf as part of a group fellowship. The project brings together pairs consisting of a (great-)granddaughter of Jewish Holocaust survivors and a (great-)granddaughter of perpetrators, working together on large-scale paintings. Throughout the process, the artists document their collaboration and the questions that arise through voice messages sent to one another. The participating artists in residence at Wiepersdorf were Jenny Alten, Erika Stürmer-Alex, Elisabeth Fraenkel, Lana Svirezheva, Kayla Elrod, Finja Sander and Eva Neidlinger.

At the heart of the project are fundamental questions: How does the past continue to shape our ever-changing present? How does identity influence our scope for action? The artists combine biographical research with site-specific elements, exploring and making visible the ambivalences that emerge. Their paintings serve as snapshots of an ongoing dialogue, forms and colors opening up an additional layer of reflection and engagement.

The works created as part of ENKEL:INNEN will be featured in an interdisciplinary exhibition at KunstHaus Potsdam from 7 September to 19 October 2025.
