Multivocal Voice and Sound Dance

- A conversation in German language -

Alex Nowitz, composer-performer, voice artist, whistling virtuoso, tenor and countertenor, discusses concepts, strategies and examples of his work between solo performance and instrumental theatre, composed structure, improvisation and gesture-controlled live electronics in a live streamed conversation with music curator and cultural manager Matthias Osterwold.

Matthias Osterwold is cultural manager and music curator. He was the founder and artistic director of 'MaerzMusik - Festival for Contemporary Music' at the Berliner Festspiele from 2001 to 2014. From 2011 to 2018 he was artistic director of 'Klangspuren_Schwaz - Tyrolean Festival for New Music' and for the years 2018 to 2020 he was music curator in the artistic team of the Ruhrtriennale.

Alex Nowitz, Schloss-Wiepersdorf fellow 2020, is a composer of vocal, chamber and electroacoustic music as well as for multidisciplinary installation concerts, opera, dance, and spoken theatre. He is also a vocal artist, tenor, countertenor and whistling virtuoso. In February 2019, he successfully defended his doctoral thesis Monsters I Love: On multivocal arts at the University of the Arts in Stockholm, in which he explored the possibilities of expanding the performance voice.
