The Working Group of German International Residency Programmes (ADIR) brings together over twenty cultural institutions, including the residency programme of the Schloss Wiepersdorf Cultural Foundation.

Issues and objectives
Development of residency programmes
Residency programmes are invaluable instruments of cultural exchange all over the world. Given the increase in global interdependencies, residency programmes have become an important resource for knowledge transfer, networking activities and international collaboration. But they constantly face new challenges, such as growing demands for ecological sustainability and long-term effectivity. The Working Group invites participants to engage in dialogue and hopes to stimulate new ideas.Care and accessibility
The aim of residency programmes is to bring together people from different cultural and social backgrounds and involve them in a constructive dialogue. Today, this poses new tasks and challenges, for example including residents from conflict regions who are seeking freedom and protection from persecution. Many programmes also want to be more open to people with disabilities or offer residency opportunities to artists with families. The Working Group provides information and a platform for discussions about greater openness and diversity.Cultural policy framework
The number of international residency programmes is growing, and as a result political frameworks are changing. This affects collaboration with artists who are protected by international programmes, for example, and pressing issues relating to visas and asylum law. Rents, redevelopment, protection of historical monuments and public austerity measures are also urgent challenges. The Working Group aims to coordinate and raise awareness of political concerns.Joint tasks of the Working Group
- Regular exchanges and networking activities with twice-yearly meetings at alternating locations and virtual working groups
- Guidelines and ideas on important topics such as the development of residency work, sustainability, families and partners, accessibility or protection programmes
- Joint cultural-political liaison work of the Working Group to highlight the opportunities and urgent political matters in residency work
- Visibility through press and public relations work as well as regular joint events
- Regular updates on scientific research and evaluations of artists’ residency programmes
