COOKING IN THE EAST: DIFFICULT RELATIONSHIPS, SIMPLE RECIPES

An afternoon with the literary magazine Sinn und Form
with Matthias Weichelt, Helene Herold und Erhard Weinholz
Reading (in German language) and culinary tasting
Sunday, 11 August 2024, 3:00 p.m.
Schlosspark Wiepersdorf
Wiepersdorf – Bettina-von-Arnim-Str. 13, 14913 Niederer Fläming
Free admission

“The food is really good and very plentiful, you can't argue with that. There's also poultry and lots of vegetables and salads, a paradise for Paul Dessau. I drink half a liter of milk every day." The young actress Käthe Reichel, who provides such precise information about culinary processes and encounters here, is on a convalescent cure at Schloss Wiepersdorf in 1951. She writes to Bertolt Brecht. The correspondence was edited by Helene Herold, who will be reading at this event. Erhard Weinholz, who has reformulated most of his article “Simple Recipes” published in Sinn und Form 4/2023 especially for this event, will also be reading. His culinary-political family and local history is based on records from GDR times.

The discussion will be moderated by Matthias Weichelt, editor-in-chief of the literary magazine “Sinn und Form”, published by the Akademie der Künste, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.

The reading will be followed by a tasting of an East German recipe.

OPEN STUDIOS AND PROGRAM

Sunday, 25 August 2024, 3:00 p.m.
Schloss Wiepersdorf
Wiepersdorf – Bettina-von-Arnim-Str. 13, 14913 Niederer Fläming
Free admission

On 25 August, the doors will be opened and the public will be given an insight into the current work of the fellowship holders at Schloss Wiepersdorf. There will also be a diverse program during the open studio day.

From 3:00 p.m., the composers Manami Nagahari and Anna Arkushyna will share insights into their oeuvre. The performance by Manami Nagahari is entitled "Eat an Apple And the bell will toll At Wiepersdorf" and will take place open air. Anna Arkushina will present the pieces "Imagine" (for electric guitar and playback) and "Niemand jeder" (electronica). The literary scholar Shira Miron will present an introduction to the multifaceted search for the origins of language in the 18th century, which in turn serves as inspiration for the new piece by Udi Perlmann, “Alphabet Cantata”, which will be performed on that very day.

In the studio complex, the visual arts fellows will be showing some examples of their work: Fides Becker, Ewa Finn, Zora Janković, Klaus Jörres and Bahzad Sulaiman. The artists will also introduce themselves to the audience in talks with Christoph Tannert and Mark Gisbourne.

LUK PERCEVAL: THE HOUR OF TRUTH WORKSHOP

"The Hour of Truth" by "The Naked Theatre" is the conclusion of a one-year-workshop for professional artists that lead them through an intensive investigation of the "necessity of going on stage" and attempts to explore the roots of their own creativity. The results, eight different solos by actors, dancers, and authors, were shown after a group residency in Wiepersdorf at various locations at the castle at the end of July.

Luk Perceval says about the project: "Art is experience, is knowledge; and instead of jealously creating something of one's own, it is better to share so that art can live and spread. [...] As a 'community of sharing', The Naked Theatre is a meeting place where performing artists spend attention, time, ideas, inspiration to create energy and joy."
