In June, we welcome nine new fellows to Schloss Wiepersdorf who live and work in the Castle for three months: Fatin Abbas (Literature), Maryam Aghaalikhani (Visual Arts), David Bird (Composition), Annedore Dietze (Visual Arts), Sarah Duffy (Visual Arts), Andrea Hensgen (Literature), Petra Heymach (Science, Topics focusing on the previously divided Germany), Kaila Howell (Science, Romanticism) and Antje Vowinckel (Composition).

Andrea Hensgen: Ein Käfig ging einen Vogel suchen

On the last Sunday before the summer vacations, Andrea Hensgen, who is currently working as a fellow at Schloss Wiepersdorf, will present her new children's book "Ein Käfig ging einen Vogel suchen" in the castle park for children from the age of 3 and adults.
A young, empty cage, which does not yet know much about the world, wishes that a bird would live in it. Then from far away, where there are no cages, a curious bird comes flying, straight into the cage. The old cat in the yard is already looking forward to the easy catch, without suspecting what a stout-hearted cage and a strong bird can achieve together. Loosely based on Franz Kafka, Andrea Hensgen tells a timeless story about friendship and freedom in "Ein Käfig ging einen Vogel suchen" (Knesebeck 2022). With illustrations by Mehrdad Zaeri.

Thomas Brasch (1945–2001) was a German author, born in the GDR and with a Jewish background. His parents came to the GDR as communists from exile in England, and his father Horst Brasch became deputy minister of culture there. The story of the Brasch family, Jews in the GDR elite, still sounds extraordinary today. This phenomenon, which was much more prevalent than one would first assume, was investigated by journalist Charlotte Misselwitz during a fellowship at Schloss Wiepersdorf in the spring of 2022.
With the writer Marion Brasch, sister of Thomas Brasch, who wrote a novel about her "fabulous family," Charlotte Misselwitz talks about Thomas Brasch's ambivalent relationship to the GDR, his rebellion against his Jewish parents' GDR allegiance, and the hopes and disappointments of East German Jews toward the GDR project.
After the conversation, we will show Andreas Kleinert's film "Lieber Thomas" (Germany 2021, 157 min, with Albrecht Schuch, Jella Haase, Jörg Schüttauf) in the Tankhalle of Schloss Wiepersdorf.

BETHY TRIO

The performance BETHY TRIO was developed during a group fellowship at Schloss Wiepersdorf and brings together text fragments by Kathy Acker, Bettina von Arnim, Dodie Bellamy and Sarah Schulman, among others. In a staging that aims at the possibility of trans-historicity, the words deal with science and poetry, the individuality of the genders and the expressions of overcoming Christian ideals of love, moving between historical epochs. With Tilman Hecker (direction), Anna Papathanasiou, Ivan Cheng, FRZNTE (performance), Scott Bolman (lights), Lars Paschke (costumes), Thorsten Hoppe (sound) and Uschi Bökesch (drums).
Café in the Orangery
The Café in the Orangery of Schloss Wiepersdorf can be visited on Sundays from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. during the summer months. The castle park can be visited all year round.
