Zur Alten Schmiede

Theme year „Lebenskunst – Kulturland Brandenburg 2022“

Until its closure a few years ago, the pub "Zur Alten Schmiede" was an important meeting place between the villagers of Wiepersdorf and the guests of the castle. Run by local resident Elfriede Donath, who had worked at Schloss Wiepersdorf for many years, countless evenings were spent here celebrating and telling stories.

After an exhibition by the group K11 in the studio house of Schloss Wiepersdorf, the tradition of mutual solidarity will be revived for one day in the restaurant "Zur Alten Schmiede" with a cultural and culinary program. The writer Nellja Veremej reads texts written during her stay in Wiepersdorf. Nezaket Ekici shows the documentary of her carriage ride performance "Die Nähe der Ferne" about the long-distance relationship of Bettina and Achim von Arnim.

ZWISCHENZEITEN – Artists in dialogue
Exhibition by K11 group

"Do you know these women?" – with this question, ten artists from the K11 group began a search for the traces of other female artists. What remains and what falls into oblivion and why? Anett Münnich, Claudia Hohrein, Ingeborg Rauss, Inna Perkas, Marlies Ziemke, Marty Sander, Pedra Guiness, Su Weiss, Ursula Kornfeld, and Vera Lang set themselves the goal of strengthening their own position, reviving what had been forgotten, and bringing it back into the present by engaging with other women artists as part of a group fellowship at Schloss Wiepersdorf.

Reading in German language

In the spring of 2022, the writer Nellja Veremej worked as a fellow in Schloss Wiepersdorf and had numerous conversations with Wiepersdorf residents during her stay. No matter what she talked to them about – flowers, roasts or barons – war always resonated: the old, the new, the eternal. Texts have emerged from the conversations, from which the author will read.

Nezaket Ekici: „Die Nähe der Ferne“ Journey by carriage
Documentary in German language

Nezaket Ekici developed the performance journey "Die Nähe der Ferne" about the long-distance relationship between Bettina and Achim von Arnim during her fellowship at Schloss Wiepersdorf. In August 2021, the artist embarked on a 3-day carriage ride towards Berlin. The journey followed, as far as possible, the historical path recorded in the letters of Bettina and Achim von Arnim. In order to make the relationship between the two tangible, Ekici repeatedly recited excerpts from the couple's letters during the ride. Additionally, she stopped with the carriage to address passers-by or to give them a lift for a short distance.
