Celebrating poetry! UNESCO established a special World Poetry Day for this purpose in 2000. It honors the value of poetry, the diversity of language and the importance of oral traditions. From the beginning, the Haus für Poesie and its partners have organized this central event in Germany.
Online readings this year by: Iraqi poet Omar al-Jaffal (born 1988), who expresses pain as well as anger in the face of the crises of our time; Volker Braun (born 1939), who reads from his new long poem Große Fuge, Nancy Campbell (born 1978), on the way to glaciers, arctic floes, frost and snow in her poems; Angélica Freitas (born 1973), who critically and powerfully focuses on the female body; and Schloss Wiepersdorf alumna Suvi Valli (born 1977), who has a close connection to German literature, especially the era of romanticism.
Knut Elstermann, journalist at radioeins, introduces the authors. All readings in original language, German translations are available.

A joint event of Haus für Poesie and Stiftung Brandenburger Tor with the German UNESCO Commission, Akademie Schloss Solitude, Berliner Künstlerprogramm of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Internationales Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia Bamberg, and Kulturstiftung Schloss Wiepersdorf with the support of the Finland Institute in Germany.
