Gundermann

We will be screening GUNDERMANN directed by Andreas Dresen on September 6th in Schloss Wiepersdorf Park. The film was awarded six German film prizes in 2019, including best film, best direction, best script, best set design, best costume design and best leading actor.
Andreas Dresen and Laila Stieler, who wrote the script together, take a look at the vanished country East Germany through the real life story of a bulldozer driver, who wrote songs, was a poet and idealist, a do-gooder and an informer. With keen sensibility, affection and humor, they depict episodes from the life of Gerhard “Gundi” Gundermann, who died in 1998 at the age of 43.
The film is about guilt and entrapment, the fragile relationship between reality and memory, repressing and forgetting, and it is simultaneously a love story and music film.
Starring: Alexander Scheer, who sang all the songs in the film himself and Anna Unterberger as his wife Conny Gundermann. Other roles include: Axel Prahl, Thorsten Merten, Bjarne Mädel, Milan Peschel, Kathrin Angerer and Peter Sodann.
