Since its inauguration in 2000, we have been celebrating it together: the UNESCO World Poetry Day. Poets from different parts of the world read their texts in the original – accompanied by German translations.
The UNESCO World Poetry Day is the occasion to honour poets, revive oral traditions of poetry recitals and promote the reading, writing and teaching of poetry. Since its inauguration 22 years ago, the Haus für Poesie together with its partners has been organising the central event in Germany.
This year's performers on stage include: Syrian-Palestinian poet Ramy Al-Asheq, who now lives in Berlin. Athena Farrokhzad, born in Tehran, lives in Stockholm. She fuses lyrical, political and conceptual processes in her poetry. Schloss Wiepersdorf alumnus Endre Kukorelly performs the poetic balancing act between Hungary and Germany, as well as Daryna Gladun, poet from Ukraine, and Mirko Bonné, whose texts precisely and subtly capture both the beauty and destruction of our world.
Under the patronage of the German Commission for UNESCO
A joint event of the Haus für Poesie and the German Commission for UNESCO, the Akademie Schloss Solitude, the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program, the Cultural Foundation Schloss Wiepersdorf and the Internationale Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia.
